Light Pole Collapse Kills Driver on I-229 in Sioux Falls | State News | mykxlg.com

{KXLG – Sioux Falls, SD} A fatal accident occurred on Interstate 229 near mile marker 9, within the Sioux Falls city limits, at 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025. A contractor working on a large tower light pole caused the pole to lean and fall across the northbound lanes of I-229, striking a passing vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, a 60-year-old male from Sioux Falls, sustained fatal injuries. He was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram ProMaster and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The names of the individuals involved have not been released pending notification of their family members. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and all information released so far is preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
