Musikfest gets free Wi

Free Wi-Fi will be available to visitors this weekend ahead of the start of Musikfest, as well as the next year.

On Tuesday, Bethlehem City Council unanimously approved a resolution allowing Service Electric to install equipment at the street light poles at the intersection of West Broad and Main streets, and the intersection of West Market and Main streets.

The idea, initially, was to provide service to visitors of Musikfest, the 10-day music festival in the city that begins Friday.

Bethlehem Mayor J. William Reynolds said that just because the devices would go up for the festival, it did not mean they had to get taken down. Service Electric offered to keep them up after the festival. The first year will not cost the city anything.

The contract will go until August 2024, with the option for automatic renewal.

The mayor said the download speeds will be enough for guests, but not enough to provide free internet to those living in the immediate area.

The city and Service Electric can cancel at any time.
